Hotel Studio

I am the advocate for stationery being the perfect souvenir.

hotel stationery remains unassumingly present in most hotel rooms; the letterhead with matching monogrammed envelopes has shrunk to a notepad by the corded phone. generally, you’ll get a pen. recently, I’ve clocked the custom pencil is what’s trendy.
how great that hospitality still recognises our human need to scrawl.

while the default is drawing a face -
I do branch out, occasionally
and indulge in a more studious form of sojourn sentimentality:

I’ll jot a quote from the day,
note the name of an acquaintance,
dictate a dish I ate,
appraise the weather
or dot point the arc of an unplanned but magical day;
to then be tucked in the side pocket of a bag,
the book I’ll only read the first 3 pages of,
or the back pocket of my travel companion.

drawings - I might leave a couple for housekeeping to decide to keep or discard. to be found, or forgotten.
to be treasured, or tossed.

I won’t blame my job because this is my soul’s preference - I am resigned to drag a paper-weighted suitcase around with me,
if it means I get to make as I go.

stay neat, always. and practice on your own carpet before taking paints on the road.
