There is a particular kind of musing that is present when a painting is being created.
The infinite potential of a blank canvas is dauntingly infinite, especially when you are working from feeling, rather than a plan.

I let my mind wander.
Calculate.

I’ll imagine the potential spaces an artwork is destined for, the company it will share, the conversations it will generate. These thoughts are embedded in the layers of paint. They form the identity of the work.

Lofty Harper is a painting I wanted irreverent, yet tamed. Abstraction gives you permission to dance with contradiction. a large canvas requires a level of physicality and energy - I wanted to capture that.

I love the idea of a painting, with its organic painterliness, being the element of contrast in a well-designed, beautifully furnished room. spontaneity and instinct paired with considered craftsmanship; for me, that is the kind of visual alchemy I want to live with.
